CARE INSTRUCTIONS
We recommend customers check the product’s material and refer to our general guidelines for handling each of the products they buy from us.
Below are the general guidelines for most of our offerings:
But consider pre-washing first.
Prewash any natural fibres that you will be washing in the future, as some shrinkage may occur. We recommend prewashing in the same way you will wash your fabric in the future – including drying. Wash all brights, darks, and lights separately, as some colours may run in their first few washes.
Cotton shrinks because of the tension that is applied to its yarn and fabrics during the construction of the clothing. This is why most cotton clothing will shrink during its first washing. The best way to avoid shrinkage is to wash them by hand or to use cold water and the delicate cycle of your washing machine.
Machine Washing
-
Hot water shrinks fabric
-
Set it to use cold water
-
Wash on the delicate cycle
-
Line dry the clothes to prevent them from shrinking in the dryer
-
Reshape cotton sweaters and other delicates and dry them flat on top of the dryer or on a drying rack
-
If you want to dry your garments in the dryer, do so on a low or no-heat setting
-
Hang them before they are completely dry to help prevent both shrinking and wrinkles
-
Wash light colours separately
-
Medium heat iron
Hand Washing
-
Hot water shrinks fabric
-
Fill the sink with warm water and add some laundry soap made for hand washing
-
Place the cotton garments in the wash water.
-
Agitate them gently by hand
-
Soak for the amount of time indicated on the detergent packaging
-
To rinse the items, drain the tub and then refill it with cool water
-
Agitating the garments by hand until soap bubbles no longer come out of them
-
Repeat this process several times to remove all the soap
-
Squeeze excess water out of the clothing but do not wring out the items, as this will cause wrinkling
-
Remove the excess water and line dry the garments
-
Lay them flat to dry or place them in the dryer on a low or no-heat setting to prevent shrinking
-
Medium heat iron
Chiffon
-
Chiffon comes in many types, but generally use a low temperature for all chiffon. Iron while damp.
-
Silk chiffon is the most delicate. Follow care instructions for silk (except ironing), but be extra gentle when handling it, i.e., handwashing, pressing dry, and ironing.
Cotton
-
Machine wash cotton items in cold or warm water. Do not use hot water, as it may shrink the cotton.
-
Use regular wash cycles and gentle detergent.
-
Avoid using any harsh chemicals like bleach and fabric softener.
-
Tumble dry on a low setting, then promptly remove the item from the dryer to avoid wrinkles.
-
Use an iron to remove wrinkles. Adding a spray of starch will revive the crispness of cotton fabrics.
Satin
-
Iron at a low temperature. Iron while damp. It’s safest to put a piece of paper on top of the garment before running the iron across it.
